Proverbs 27:19 (NIV)
As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man.
We are who we're on the inside. A happy face may mask a sad heart and likewise. However, a corrupt heart can never mask it's sin for long any more than a pious heart will utter or do impropriety. Our demeanor always echoes our inner selves and nor the other way around.
