Is raising taxes on guns and ammunition a good idea?

2020 Democratic hopeful Senator Elizabeth Warren wants to raise taxes on guns and ammunition. Would higher taxes and hence higher gun prices actually deter a killer from buying weapons? Such move would most likely be opposed by the NRA and lead to severe burden on genuine buyers.
