The Tigray region in Ethiopia has been wrought with political instability and upheaval for several months. So far the conflict has killed thousands of people, and more than two million have been displaced.
Additionally, United Nations agencies said earlier this summer that the conflict had contributed to conditions that saw more than 350,000 people in Tigray suffering from food insecurity, while millions more were at risk.
Phone lines are currently down in the region, and the internet has been cut off for months. The people in this region are essentially cut off from much of the outside world, able to receive little help or resources during this humanitarian crisis.
