Matthew 7:11 (NASB)
If you, despite being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children.
Why did the Lord Jesus call all the loving fathers who gave good gifts and are generous to their children evil? To be sure, there is a semblance of goodness left in humanity. Fathers are loving, at least to their children, if not to their wives. Husbands may divorce their wives, but they still maintain their goodness and love at least to their children. Why then would the Lord judge such men evil? It's because none of our human goodness can match the ultimate goodness of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is the ultimate standard for entering heaven. The noblest of fathers probably spoke unnecessarily harshly to their children or gave a dirty look to another man's wife, and so on. Only our Heavenly Father is perfect, and only in Christ can any man attain the goodness needed to enter heaven.
