Lack

Luke 18:22 (NIV)

You still lack one thing.

The Church in America is uncertain about what it lacks. Some believe that preaching the importance of the Ten Commandments and reintroducing God and the Bible into the public school system would be the solution. However, can simply teaching children to follow the Ten Commandments be enough to save their souls? Although the Ten Commandments are sacred, can strict adherence to them alone save our souls and protect us from hell?

In the encounter, Jesus meets a wealthy young man who has faithfully followed the Jewish faith since birth, observing all the Ten Commandments. The man genuinely desires to know what he must do to be saved. Jesus then reveals the surprising truth to the rich young man - he lacks one more thing. This revelation may have shocked the young man, who had been living a pious, godly, and morally upright life. Even the Jewish nation diligently follows the Torah. However, Jesus' revelation implies that merely obeying the Ten Commandments is insufficient. True salvation is believing in the One who has fulfilled all the commandments and lacks nothing - Jesus Christ.

This doesn't mean we should disregard or disrespect the Ten Commandments. It means salvation cannot be obtained through obedience to the Ten Commandments alone. Salvation is found only in Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of the Ten Commandments.
