Deuteronomy 12:28 (NASB)
So that it may go well for you.
God's instructions and commands are for our well-being. The Lord is not a killjoy who takes pleasure in merely commanding us around like we were enslaved. The commands of the Lord are designed to keep us from evil and temptation and deliver us from all harm. Imagine a father telling his child to only play in the yard. As constraining as that may be for the kid, the father knows the boy will be harmed if he goes out onto the street. Or consider a man who cheated on his wife and committed adultery. Such a man who hides his affair from his wife is consumed with guilt and grief, and eventually ends up destroying his marriage. So when God tells us not to commit adultery, He knows the consequences of such a sin and what it would do to that soul. God is not merely barking our orders to exercise His authority, He is doing so that it may go well with us.
