Doubt

Matthew 14:31 (NIV)

Why did you doubt?

Doubt comes from unbelief. It is a combination of not believing the person and his message. We may believe the Lord up to a certain point, but then begin to panic as the Apostle Peter did as he began to sink. Peter dared to walk on water when the Lord challenged him with the words, "Come." But when things began to get rough, he took his eyes off the Lord Jesus and started focusing on the turmoil around him. As long as Peter was focused on Christ, he walked on water by faith. But there was a limit to his faith and courage. The same Peter who would betray Christ with oaths and curses when he faced possible arrest for being Jesus's follower lost his faith in the Lord when facing the waves and the wind. Unshakeable faith in the Lord, dispelling all doubt, only comes from the Holy Spirit.
