Experience

Luke 8:13 (NIV)

Who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root.

If one is constantly harking back to their conversion experience without any current faith or service, then they are probably not saved. It is easy to reminisce about the moment we were saved and baptized, or even received the Holy Spirit, but that doesn't mean we are walking by faith at that moment. A past conversion or sanctification experience does not assure our future eternal salvation. Many are thrilled and ecstatic that they are saved, but they don't bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit and never grow in faith and service of the Lord. Mature saints are those who do not dwell on past spiritual experiences but seek new experiences with the Lord as they continue to obey and serve Him.
