Berean Study Bible (Luke 6:45)

And the evil man brings the evil things out.

A man's intent makes him do things, whether good or evil. A man's intentions and desires define who he is. His thoughts, actions, desires, plans, and worldview depend on his intentions. A man's intentions are part of his soul or essence. He may not entirely know his intentions at any given time. But he may slowly realize what he wants and intends. Many may fool themselves that their intentions are noble and selfless. But over time, they will learn how selfish, corrupt, and self-seeking their intentions are. There is only One whose intentions have always been selfless and whose only intention is to serve our Heavenly Father. He is the Lord Jesus Christ. If we want our intentions to be purified, we have no choice but to trust Him.
