Just discipline

Jeremiah 30:11 (NLV)

I will discipline you, but with justice;

I cannot let you go unpunished.

We tend to see God's chastisement as something to avoid rather than embrace. God's disciplining provides insights we wouldn't have on our own and corrects our course when we 're not sure which way we're headed. God disciplines those that He loves. Christ Himself was disciplined and we have no right to expect to somehow avoid that. We should start rejoicing at the care and attention our Heavenly Father is bestowing upon us.
