Matthew 5:9 (NIV)
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.
A peacemaker negotiates a settlement between two warring parties. Great men like Henry Kissinger negotiated delicate traces between irreconcilable nations such as Israel and Egypt. They are heralded and celebrated as saviors of humanity. However, as blessed as they may be, none can reconcile an angry God (Hebrews 10:31) with a sinful man except the Lord Jesus Christ. As much as we want peace on this earth, real peace is when a hostile sinner makes peace with a just and holy God. The true peacemaker, in that case, is the Lord Jesus Christ, who reconciled fallen man to a sovereign God by His sacrifice on the cross (2 Cor 5:18). He, Jesus of Nazareth, is the only true peacemaker we should celebrate, revere and worship. In the last days, Satan will establish a false peace in this world by eliminating God and any concept of sin. However, that false peace will land many in hell. The only meaningful peace is to be found by abiding in the Lord Jesus Christ, the true peacemaker who made peace between God and man.
