Penny

Luke 12:59 (NIV)

I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.

Every debt has to be settled. We should not expect to escape God's wrath until we have paid every penny for the sins we have committed on this earth. God will not simply ignore or forget our sins. We have to pay every penny for the remission of our sins. But what are the pennies that God expects? The punishment for sin is death. That is the only penny that God will accept. Hence, it is all the more astounding that the Lord Jesus Christ paid every penny for our sins on the cross. Let us rejoice that in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have paid every penny for our sins and are redeemed.
