Useful Fear

Luke 12:5 (Berean Study Bible)

Yes, I tell you, fear Him.

Most people tell us that fear is useful. Although they are correct in a way, the fear they refer to is personal fear which is the fear of losing something or someone. In all that time people never bother to fear that which they can't see or understand. Their fear of the unknown is limited only to this world and this temporal life. It never occurs to them that they could lose everything in this life and then be eternally damned. The true fear should be of losing our place in heaven. That is the holy and reverent fear that pleases God.
