Release International Prayer Shields, Pakistan, Afghanistan

Please continue to pray for justice for Zafar Bhatti, who has been imprisoned for ‘blasphemy’ in Pakistan since 2012. His life sentence was recently increased to a death sentence. Ask God to be with his wife, Nawab, too.

Pray for strength for the church in Pakistan. Christians fear persecution may intensify as the Pakistani Taliban have been emboldened by the Afghan Taliban’s seizing power last August.

Pray in faith that Afghanistan, the nation that Bishop of Truro Philip Mounstephen recently described as ‘the most dangerous country on earth to be a Christian’, will see explosive church growth.

A poor harvest and the near collapse of the economy in Afghanistan have caused severe food shortages. Pray that God will meet the needs of Christians who are likely to face discrimination in social support such as food distributions.

Pray for ‘Abas’, a former imam who has suffered (and survived) a grenade attack and kidnapping attempt since becoming a Christian in Afghanistan. Stand with him in praying for a steadfast spirit.

Thank God for the overcoming spirit of ‘Aabroo’ whose family rejected her after she turned to Christ and who was forced to leave Afghanistan. She is now caring for Afghan refugees.

Release International partners are supporting several families who fled Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover (see Voice magazine, pages 10-11). Please pray that God will meet their every physical and spiritual need.
