1 Peter 4:7 (NIV)
The end of all things is near.
It is not merely the end of time that the Apostle Peter is referring to in this verse, but the end of all things. That would include the material universe as we know it, the nations and their rulers, the way of living and doing things, the theologies and doctrines, the philosophies, and anything and everything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. The sheer foolishness of trying to preserve the current order of things by seeking peace in a fallen world is nothing more than wishful thinking. The desire to save nature, preserve cultures and traditions, make peace among warring nations, improve the human condition, eliminate hunger, eradicate poverty, usher in universal brotherhood and such sound like noble ideals until they collide with the reality of a dead and decaying universe infested with sin that God Almighty has destined for total destruction (not mere purification as some suggestions) in intense heat that even the base elements such as hold or diamond will melt. The only thing or entity that will be rescued from this damned universe is the Church and the redeemed saints. Religious leaders, with their pious and peaceful homilies, should stop praying for world peace and start praying for the salvation of the elect, because that is the only prayer in God's will that the Lord will honor.
