2 Corinthians 3:17 (NASB)
Now the Lord is Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
As our brothers and sisters across America gather with their families to celebrate Independence Day on July 4, and particularly America's 250th birthday, let us pause to contemplate what freedom truly means. Is freedom from a tyrant who demanded taxes, but without representation, the ultimate freedom? Is financial freedom or freedom from poverty the ultimate freedom? Is freedom from disease, suffering, loneliness, homelessness, and so on the ultimate freedom? No. True liberty is freedom from sin, a guilty conscience, from the wrath of God, and eternal separation from Him. This 4th of July, let us ponder what freedom and liberty truly mean. Happy Independence Day, everyone.
