Knowing but not understanding

Mark 12:24 (Berean Study Bible)

"Aren't you mistaken because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God"?

The Pharisees and the Sadducees had a thorough knowledge of the Torah and the scriptures. However, they lacked the understanding to interpret the scriptures from God's point of view because they didn't know God or His heart. They believed that obeying the scriptures would grant them eternal life when they were supposed to obey the One whom the scriptures were referring to. May we Christians never fall into that trap. Amen.
